The United States is preparing a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine that will likely consist primarily of ammunition, such as Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) for HIMARS launchers, ammunition for Bradley Fighting Vehicles, as well as armoured vehicle-launched bridges.

According to sources, the aid package will likely come up frequently during the meeting between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and American President Joe Biden at the White House.

To defend itself against Russia, which invaded its pro-Western neighbor on February 24 of last year, the United States has given Ukraine nearly $32 billion worth of weapons.

According to a senior administration official, Biden and Scholz might also discuss worries that China might give Russia lethal assistance.

According to American officials and other sources, the Biden administration is informing close allies that it may impose new sanctions on China if Beijing continues to support Russia militarily.

Numerous people have died, millions have been displaced, cities in Ukraine have been destroyed, the global economy has been rocked, and there is a Cold War-style chill in the air due to the year-long conflict.

According to a senior U.S. official, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Moscow to reinstate the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) on nuclear weapons during a meeting of the G20 foreign ministers. He also urged Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, to put an end to the ongoing conflict.

The top diplomats had not met in person since the invasion; this was the first time. Lavrov and Blinken only had a brief “on the go” conversation, according to the Russian foreign ministry.

Bakhmut front row
The Ukrainian military’s general staff reported on Friday that in the previous day, Ukrainian forces had thwarted more than 85 attacks in the five main sectors of the Bakhmut front line.

After losing territory in the second half of 2022, Russia claims that capturing Bakhmut would pave the way for it to take control of the rest of the Donbas industrial region. Although Ukraine claims the city has little strategic value, it wants to use up all Russian forces there.

“We must have as much ammunition as we can. Russians are present in greater numbers than we have weapons to kill them. What matters is not the number of enemy soldiers. Technology is important. According to Volodymyr Nazarenko, a deputy commander in the Ukrainian National Guard.
