Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto State and director general of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, is taking no chances in his effort to ensure that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate for president on February 25, 2023, wins.

For someone who started his political career in 1999 as Senator Abdullahi Wali’s personal assistant on legislative affairs and was later elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003 to represent the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, before taking the helm of Sokoto State for almost eight years and winning supporters’ hearts, the vivacious 57-year-old, 1991 law graduate of Usman Dan Fod,

Tambuwal has been involved in national politics for close to 25 years now, in addition to his ongoing duties as the chief executive of Sokoto State. This distinguishes him from many recent entrants into Nigeria’s political scene. In the House of Representatives, he has held notable positions in a number of capacities.

From 2005 until his defection to the PDP, he served as the House’s Minority Leader. He was appointed Deputy Chief Whip after being re-elected to the House in 2007. At different points in time, he served on a number of committees, including the House Committees on Rules and Business, Communications, Judiciary, Inter-Parliamentary, and Water Resources. The House Ad-hoc Committee on Constitution Review included him among its members. He was also the chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Bill for an Act to Amend the Land Use Act and the acting chairman of the House Committee on Power. He oversaw the Ad-hoc Committee that examined the report of the contentious power probe committee led by Ndudi Elumelu.

The African, Caribbean, Pacific & European Union Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU) was held in Prague, Czech Republic, in April 2009. Tambuwal led the Nigerian delegation there and served as vice-chairman of the economic committee.

He ran for office as Sokoto State’s governor on April 11, 2015, won, and was re-elected on March 9, 2019, and on March 22, 2019, in a special election for Sokoto State.

Tambuwal was recommended for the difficult task of ensuring that the Waziri Adamawa won Nigeria’s presidency in the election held on February 25, 2023, thanks to his combined experiences, hard work, and shrewd strategy, which helped Atiku become the PDP’s presidential candidate last May.

Since he and other appointees into the body – Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State (Chairman), Senator Liyel Imoke (Deputy Director General), Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) as vice chairmen for the northern and southern regions respectively; Prof. Adewale Oladipo, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, and Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo Additionally, there is a positive vibe throughout the PDP’s national headquarters and all of its local chapters.

In an effort to show that he was up for the challenging job, Tambuwal first pledged issue-based campaigns as he got things going. Atiku is well-prepared to provide the necessary leadership for this country at this time, according to the suave learned man—as lawyers are known—who said at his first press conference last September. He claimed that none of the other candidates could compare to him in terms of federal governance experience.

Adding that “now is not the time for Nigerians to go for trial and error,” he warned against experimentation at the time. Nigerians should now hand it over to the person who has already proven themselves and has the necessary experience to do a good job. This person should be able to get things done right away, just like we did when the Campaign Council was established on September 28, the day INEC lifted the ban on presidential election campaigning.

Tambuwal also pledged to conduct politics without animosity. Issues will be the focus of our campaign. We’re going to market our candidates based on the program we introduced, which is typically solution-based,” he said.

The PDP’s national campaigns kicked off at Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, October 10, with Tambuwal serving as the catalyst.

Tambuwal has been peacefully and cautiously leading his team through the ins and outs of this nation ever since the Atiku/Okowa campaigns got underway. To emphasize that Atiku is the best candidate for all six geopolitical zones of this country, he consults and networks daily. Last we checked, Tambuwal had traveled to 25 states with the presidential campaign.

The PDP presidential candidate and his entourage arrived in Sokoto on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, to a historic welcome for the “Home Boy.” Tambuwal was the pilot. The enormous crowd, which had not previously been seen in the capital of the Caliphate since the presidential campaigning began in 2023, was jubilant as the incumbent governor of the state and his team chanted party slogans inside the Giginya Memorial Stadium, where the rally was held.

As he has done in every place he has taken the party, Tambuwal urged the residents of the state to vote PDP in order to promote prosperity and economic growth.

He said that in order to fix the situation in Nigeria, a man with experience and good mental and physical health is required, and that Nigerians should make wise choices because they are aware of the difference between darkness and light.

Mallam Saidu Umar, a.k.a. Mallam Ubandoman Sokoto, the PDP candidate for governor of Sokoto State, expressed his profound gratitude to the state’s populace for gathering in such a large number to attend the significant occasion.

“We owe Allah (swt) a huge debt of gratitude for today. Our gratitude to the people of Sokoto State, the Caliphate’s capital, cannot be adequately expressed in words, he said.

The overwhelming turnout at the campaign, according to him, was a clear indication that the residents of the State were unhappy with the way the APC government was running the country. He said the demonstration of unwavering solidarity and support was reflected in this.

Ubandoma also made the observation that the large turnout for the campaign indicated that the populace was overwhelmingly pleased with the work of the current PDP administration led by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

An ecstatic Atiku Abubakar reeled out his “Recover Nigeria” program, emphasizing ending insecurity, youth and women empowerment, boosting agricultural production, economic development, education, and others, adding that these will bring Nigeria back to its former glory. Tambuwal appeared to be pleased with Atiku Abubakar’s magic touch on the campaign train since October last year. In order to increase trade between nations, he declared that he would open Nigeria’s border with the Niger Republic.

“I would like all of you here to come out en masse to vote for all PDP candidates in Sokoto State,” Atiku urged the agitated crowd as he turned to face the audience. I anticipate that Sokoto will receive at least 1.5 million votes.

Additionally, Tambuwal, a tenacious national political strategist of North West Nigerian descent, assured the Atiku/Okowa campaign that “PDP will win all the electoral contests in the state in the upcoming elections.”

Given these precedents, Tambuwal is seen as the man who will lead the Atiku/Okowa ticket to victory this month by PDP politicians as well as those from rival parties.
