Armed Bandits Take Over Kankara LGA in Katsina, Kill Civilians and Ban Farming

Armed bandits reportedly led by a notorious kingpin known as Babaro have invaded Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, effectively taking control of the region.

 

According to security analyst, Bakatsine, who disclosed the development via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the heavily armed group has already killed several residents during the assault. The bandits have also imposed a ban on farming activities, further escalating fears of a looming humanitarian crisis in the area.

 

While details remain sketchy, locals say the attacks have displaced many residents, with some communities entirely deserted as people flee for safety.

 

Efforts to reach security agencies in the state for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time. However, concerned citizens and civil society groups are calling on the government to urgently deploy security forces to reclaim the area and protect the lives and livelihoods of the affected communities.

 

This latest development adds to the growing security concerns in Katsina State, which has been one of the epicenters of armed banditry and rural terrorism in Nigeria’s northwest.
