Dele Farotimi, a human rights advocate and attorney, stated that it would be “God forbid” if President-elect Bola Tinubu, whom he referred to as “INEC-select,” were to be sworn in as the leader of Nigeria following the March 18 gubernatorial election.
Farotimi made this statement while urging Lagosians to participate in the electoral process by casting ballots for their preferred candidates in the governorship and state house of assembly elections scheduled for March 18, 2023.
He spoke on Wednesday during his appearance on the news program of Arise Television.
The attorney claimed that criminal gangs had been made legal in Lagos out of fear that Tinubu would be elected president in Abuja with Lagos already in his back pocket.

“Freedom is a choice; it is entirely up to the individual. The choice of whether or not to exist or live is entirely up to the individual. I’d rather go down fighting for what I think is the truth than live to a ripe old age and be unable to speak the truth,” he declared.
“Now that the truth has been spoken, it must go beyond that,” Farotimi continued. What would happen if this Saturday’s elections were canceled? I must address the camera directly and inform you that all you would be doing is validating your own enslavement so that, at the end of the day, the only reason they are attacking you and using threats is to prevent you from participating in the poll they previously told you was pointless. Because you have since learned that your vote is not pointless, they are afraid if you do so.

But how do you free yourself if you don’t crack that soup pot? God forbid the “INEC’s select president” takes the oath of office. But what if that man is now living in Abuja while Lagos is still in their grasp? With criminal gangs already legal in Lagos State, what will happen to us? We might as well give up and accept the fact that we will all join mushroom “pikins” (urchins) in his motor park because that is the reality and the only other option to you sitting down. You need to get up, leave your homes, and realize what is at stake—it is your very freedom—even though I am not even advocating that you vote for any particular candidate. Vote now, please.
