President Bola Tinubu has been urged by the advocacy group Transparency Society Network to review corruption cases that have not been brought to a just conclusion.
While congratulating the new president, the advocacy group noted that the administration’s actions to combat financial crimes and corruption will provide a sense of direction for the country’s future for the next four years.
At a press conference held in Ikeja, Lagos State, the group’s executive director, Solomon Omokehinde, advised the president to support financial crimes agencies so they can do their jobs without interference.
Omokehinde urged the president to see to it that the corruption cases brought against the Speakers of the State Houses of Assemblies in Ogun and Lagos, Olakunle Oluomo and Mudashiru Obasa, respectively, are resolved rationally.
He emphasised that the prosecution of these prominent politicians will strengthen the national campaign against corruption.
“This group is calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to make public its findings after the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, was questioned for alleged financial misappropriation rocking the assembly, and of course, other pending investigations that have been concluded but have not been made public,” he continued.
Transparency Society Network thinks that this action is required because of the House of Assembly’s vile noise and Lagosians’ worries, which have gotten worse since the investigation’s inception in 2020.

Remember that Mr. Obasa was accused of misusing public funds by allegedly having more than 60 bank accounts? Additionally, Mr. Speaker was charged with awarding himself contracts while posing as different businesses,” he said.
“A nine-member house panel cleared the speaker after questioning him, even though Mr. Obasa said the accusations against him were unfounded. Can Mr. Obasa preside over his own case as a judge?
Omoghehinde enquired.
However, he pointed out that State Assemblies all over the nation must exercise caution and transparency when making public expenditures.
He continued, “As an advocacy group, we have noted how Lagosians and, by extension, Nigerians, are now interested in knowing whether the Speaker is truly using taxpayer money wisely or not.recognising that the Lagos Speaker is not the only one being investigated. State Assemblies must therefore exercise caution and transparency in their public spending as a new era beckons across the nation.
He emphasised, “We appeal that these allegations be looked into by the EFCC or any Police authority in charge of fraud in the interest of the public.
“This investigation will be required in the interest of the public and the Speaker himself,” Omokehinde said. We firmly believe that no allegations ought to be disregarded or ignored.
