Nasarawa Politics: Tribunal Decides the fate of Gov Sule, Ombugadu 2nd October.

TEC News!

Tension thickens in Nasarawa State as the State Governorship Election Petition  Tribunal gives verdict today Monday 2nd October 2023 that would decide the fate of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the APC and his major rival, Dr David Ombugadu of the PDP.

The supporters within the camp of Abdullahi Sule, and his rival Dr. David Ombugadu, have been eagerly waiting for 2nd October as the both parties knows their fate once the tribunal delivers her judgement.

The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Lafia had commenced her sitting since on 30th may 2023.

It could be recalled that Dr. David Ombugadu, of the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) had filled a suit challenging the declaration of Abdullahi Sule of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 governorship election held on 18th April 2023, by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The verdict holds today after the both parties had presented their evidence before the tribunal for the final judgement as scheduled to hold on the 2nd October 2023.

Before the tribunal verdict, it was reported that residents had committed themselves into prayer for the will of God to prevails on the outcome of the tribunal verdict.

Some residents who committed themselves into prayer were Mallam Suleiman Abdullahi, he said that Allah is a listening father who does not fail in his promises hence the change against the wishes of the people.

According to him, “We genuinely gave our mandate to the People’s Democratic party PDP and it’s candidate on March 18 for a positive change in Nasarawa state and few people will want to steal our mandate. We will continue to pray to Allah who will listen to our supplications and do his will on Monday.”

It was also reported that Others who committed themselves into same prayers were Rev. Joshua John Bako who opined that God Almighty is always ahead of every principality adding that the will of God shall prevail and put to shame those insisting on taking the People’s mandate given to David Emmanuel Ombugadu’s in Nasarawa.

“The axe of God is waiting any one challenging the power and the will of God in these case, for it is said in the Book of Isaiah 58:11 that the Lord will guide his people, satisfy their desire and make their bones strong they shall be like a watered garden, like a spring water, whose work do not fail”.

TEC News opinion sampled got expressions from some residents on Monday 2nd October. Mr Yusuf Kigbu told TEC News that he prays that the judgement favour the PDP Candidate, Dr David Ombugadu as he believes that he won the election and deserve to be given.

“In view of what transpired during the election, for many reasons of cause, we are expecting the judgement to favour PDP, yes because if you look at the presidential election, it was PDP that won here, Nasarawa State, not APC. All the 3 senators from the state none is even from APC, at least PDP is having one. Even the house election, they were having almost half – half. An then, the way the Inec announced the election too was not clear and there were some other reports of cases of rigging in some wards and some local government including Lafia. So, when all these things add up and if the Tribunal would be honest and they would want to do justice, we don’t expect anything less than the PDP Candidate being declared a winner” Mr Kigbu said and when TEC News correspondent asked him on how he can rate the administration of Engineer Sule, he said the Governor as a person who is humane.

Mr Yusuf Kigbu further said that:

“Engr Sule as a person per say seems to be somebody that is humane and left to me he would have loved to do what can impact the people positively but you know at another level, once you are a governor, there are so many other factors that are influencing you, political factor and so on. So when it comes to that you can hardly take decisions on your own. We discovered that in terms of governance, he is not really doing much because there are these other factors pulling him here and there especially when it has to do with resources… So, if Engineer Sule should be losing out, I dont think we may be losing anything much because in terms of governance, there have been no so much to show but if another hand comes, there might be an improvement”.

A resident of Mr Auta Namo in his response to TEC News said that any direction the judgement goes is okay by him.

“Anyone of them would be okay. The judiciary is not working. So I know actually that Ombugadu won the election. The evil mind of the judiciary stand so what ever I think doesn’t mean much but all I know is that of cause Ombugadu won”.

Other opinions however, suggested that most of the residents are behind the victory of the PDP candidate and pray that the tribunal declare Dr David Ombugadu the winner of the Governorship election.
