A notorious kidnapping kingpin has been captured by the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad of the Cross River Police Command, five years after he was listed as wanted.
The Kufre Etim, aka Romance, kingpin’s hideout was stormed by the SP Ogini Chukwuma-led squad acting on intelligence, and it is claimed that when the kingpin saw the team, he opened fire.
He was wounded during the gunfight with the police and was subsequently taken into custody.
Other gang members managed to flee with various injuries while he was being arrested.

Sule Balarabe, the state police commissioner, hailed his arrest as a triumph for the Cross River community and the police.“The notorious kidnapper has been terrorising the state and part of a neighbouring state for years, we are glad that he has been apprehended.
“He has been on the wanted list for three years and we finally picked him up today,” he stated.
Mr Romance’s name has been linked with several kidnap cases, armed robbery and killings in the state.
He is said to be responsible for the abduction of several medical doctors, lecturers of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital as well as the University of Calabar.

He was also responsible for the abduction of the wife of a popular journalist in Calabar
Sule Balarabe, the state police commissioner, described his arrest as a victory for the police and the citizens of Cross River.
