Senator Ajibola Basiru, the lawmaker for Osun Central Senatorial District, has distanced himself from a Facebook account that posted a message congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on his victory.
The rebuttal was made by Basiru, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, in a statement he released on Thursday.
In a unanimous decision on an appeal Adeleke filed, the Court of Appeal in Abuja declared him the victor of the governorship election.
Basiru claimed that the PDP and the Adeleke administration were behind the post in a statement titled “APC Must Go to the Supreme Court.”
My attention was drawn to a Facebook page with my photos under the name Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, where a post read: “Buga judgment has been finally put to rest!!!” Alhamdulilah’.
“The aforementioned Facebook account is obviously a product of the cunning handiwork of the rudderless Peoples Democratic Party government of Jackson Adeleke in Osun State, seeking to validate the Court of Appeal’s decision, which was the outcome of their appeal against the tribunal’s decision invalidating their party’s purported election in the general election of July 2022.
The PDP appears to be acting in desperation by trying to have the Court of Appeal’s decision questioned, apparently out of concern that it might not pass the Supreme Court’s scrutiny.
Oladele Olabamiji, the Osun PDP’s director of media, responded by rejecting Basiru’s claims and asserting that neither the party nor Adeleke would ever commit such an act.
Who is Ajibola Basiru?” he questioned. Someone who, after being soundly defeated by our party, will soon become just an ordinary member of the public!
“If we are experiencing any headaches at all, he is not one of them. We cannot lower ourselves to the point of setting up a fictitious Facebook account and posting materials. What is the goal? We don’t even do such a thing because he doesn’t have any political value to support it.
