The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has urged Nigerians to embrace transformational leadership anchored in justice, unity, accountability, and strong ethical values.
The group made the call in a communiqué signed by its National President, Alhaji Sani Maigoro; and National Secretary General, Alhaji Masud Akintola, at the end of its National Political Summit in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The summit is with the theme: “Empowering Muslims for Sustainable Development: Lessons from History, Realities of Today, and Visions for the Future”.
It stated that the summit brought together Muslim youth leaders, Islamic scholars, clerics, government officials, and delegates from across the country.
The summit reaffirmed that Muslim youth must draw from the intellectual and spiritual legacy of past Muslim scholars and reformers, while engaging contemporary challenges with innovation, discipline and vision.
“True transformation begins with personal reform, institutional strengthening, and a shared commitment to building a united, just, and prosperous Nigeria,” it stated.
The summit also commended governors of Ekiti, Niger, Edo, Imo, and Borno States for their inclusive governance.
It urged other state governments and the Federal Administration to emulate these examples to strengthen public trust and deepen participatory democracy.
NACOMYO rejected recent attempt by U.S. President Donald Trump to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty through proposals to designate the country as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
The council viewed such action as counterproductive to national cohesion and peace.
The summit emphasised the importance of grooming principled leaders, ensuring fairness in electoral processes, and expanding economic empowerment initiatives within Muslim communities.
It also called for stronger collaboration among Muslim organisations to articulate a unified political direction.
The Council lauded the Senate for its resolution prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets within motor parks.
It called on NAFDAC and security agencies to ensure strict and immediate enforcement as a measure to safeguard public health, safety, and moral order.
Delegates encouraged Muslim communities to establish and sustain platforms for political education, civic advocacy, and informed participation in governance and public affairs, to ensure that Muslim voices contribute constructively to national discourse.
The summit stressed the importance of grooming a new generation of principled leaders through structured ethical training, transparency, and self-discipline anchored in Islamic values and service to humanity.
NACOMYO recommended reforms to ensure fairness, credibility, and meritocracy in political recruitment and electoral processes, enabling competent, service-oriented individuals to emerge as leaders at all levels of governance.
It emphasised the need for expanded economic and social empowerment initiatives within Muslim communities as a foundation for resilience, active citizenship, and meaningful contributions to national development.
It called for stronger collaboration among scholars, elders, youth leaders, and Muslim organizations to transcend personal and sectional interests, and to articulate a unified, strategic political direction for the Nigerian Muslim community.
Participants urged a departure from personality-driven patronage networks toward collective, community-oriented development as a sustainable model for long-term stability, relevance, and inclusive growth. (NAN)
