The State Security Service professes to be aware of subversive forces’ plans to obstruct the programme in several areas of the nation on May 29 during the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The SSS claimed that it was aware of plots by unsavoury characters to sabotage the programme in various sections of the nation. They intend to undermine the security agencies’ efforts to ensure peaceful ceremonies and sow fear and panic, the statement claims.
The SSS further stated that immoral behaviour would only help to undermine national unity and cohesiveness.
This was stated in a statement released by the SSS on Thursday.
The media and civil society organisations were also warned by the secret police to avoid sensationalism, slanted reporting, false alarms, and fake news.
Accordingly, it is suggested that throughout the events, “citizens, the media, and civil society organisations strictly adhere to security and civil protocols,” according to the SSS statement.
It said, “They are also urged to avoid fake news, false alarms, skewed reportage/narratives, and sensationalism that may likely incite conflict, tension, and violence prior to and after the exercises.”
The call, according to the secret police, was made to prevent stories from escalating into conflict, tension, or bloodshed before or after the inauguration.
At the inaugural venues, the secret police issued warnings to unauthorised and non-accredited people to stay away from restricted and specifically defined areas.
