Baptist Model School, Akwanga, held its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony in grand style, recognizing academic excellence, staff dedication, and student talents in a colourful event that drew the admiration of parents, teachers, alumni, and community stakeholders.
The highlight of the day was the presentation of scholarships to ten deserving pupils, announced by the Proprietor, Rev. Abiola John Aremu, who emphasized the school’s commitment to rewarding diligence and promoting hard work. Each beneficiary was called forward and publicly celebrated, symbolizing the school’s vision for inclusive and holistic education.
In addition to the student scholarships, awards were given to both teaching and non-teaching staff as a gesture of appreciation for their tireless efforts, productivity, and unwavering commitment to character-building and academic excellence.
The event was marked by an array of presentations showcasing students’ talents in dance, drama, choreography, and debate. The learners performed enthusiastically, drawing cheers and commendations from attendees who were visibly thrilled by the quality and discipline on display.
Speaking to TEC News, Rev. Aremu expressed pride in the students’ achievements, stating:
“Baptist Model School is indeed a model. We recently took part in a mathematics competition at St Peter’s Nursery and Primary School, Akwanga Local Government Area and secured third place. Today, we are celebrating not just academic results but values—courtesy, hard work, and moral behaviour. Success in education is measured by the value we add to children’s lives.”
A notable parent and former teacher, Mrs. Adejumo Folashade, who has had all three of her children pass through the school, praised the school’s culture of excellence:
“I have no fear enrolling my children in Baptist Model School. The teachers are deeply committed, and the school has continued to produce children of character and wisdom. Even beyond here, our children go out and win.”
Chairperson of the school, Mrs. Agbomabiwon Aderonke Princess, reaffirmed the school’s mission-driven focus:
“Our first guiding principle is spirituality, rooted in scripture. Our teachers are not just educators but character-builders. This is a school that molds the total child—morally, mentally, and spiritually.”
Members of staff also had glowing remarks about the school. Mr. Godwin Alu, a teacher, noted that the school promotes a transformative experience for students, even those who begin with academic challenges.
“Here, every staff member is respected and valued. We have a friendly and supportive work environment.”
Mrs Doris Emmanuel, the school’s long-serving cashier and bursar, shared her pride in the team:
“It makes me proud to work here. The teachers are great and the environment is uplifting.”
Vanessa, the outgoing head girl of the school expressed her gratitude for the lessons taught beyond the classroom:
“My teacher makes me proud. One important thing I’ve learned here is character—and it’s not even in our textbooks!”
The Head Teacher, Mr Jacob Martins praised the Proprietor for his commitment, noting the school’s consistent performance in external competitions and the strong bond among staff and learners:
“We are proud of our achievements and proud of our teachers. Each outing we return with something to celebrate.”
The event ended on a joyful note with refreshments served to all attendees, many of whom lingered long after the formal program ended, basking in the celebration of excellence and community.
Baptist Model School Akwanga, a Christian mission school, which has no religion discrimination has extended an open invitation to the general public to enroll their wards in the school to benefit from its rich educational offerings and value-based system.
