State Government Barns Sexually Explicit Textbooks for Instructional Materials in Public, Private Schools

The Government of Kano State has reportedly banned the use of certain textbooks for instructional materials in public and private schools across the state due to sexually explicit content.

This was reportedly conveyed in a letter titled ‘Announcement’, signed by the Director, of Planning, Research and Statistics, Hamisu Muhammad for the Special Adviser to the Governor on Private and Voluntary Institutions, Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar.

The letter dated 5th October 2023 was addressed to all operators of private and voluntary Schools in the state.

“The Kano State Government wishes to notify operators of both Private and Voluntary Schools in the state that, the under-listed books are prohibited for instructional use in your Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools, due to the observed inclusions of inappropriate and sexually explicit contents that are harmful to the morals of our young students”, the letter revealed.
