In response to the alleged murder of a soldier by a police officer in Lagos State on Thursday, the Nigerian Army took action.

Deputy Director of Public Relations for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, signed a statement containing this information.

You might recall that on Wednesday, a mob in Ogijo Community, a border town between the states of Ogun and Lagos, attacked a police station in response to the death of a soldier who was allegedly stabbed to death by a police officer.

Ayeni claimed that the suspect (policeman), who was not appropriately attired and standing quite close to a patrol car of Operation MESA, was confronted by the victim (soldier), who did so to establish his identity.

“This resulted in a disagreement and the unfortunate incident that followed.
“The soldier was immediately rushed to the Lagos State Polytechnic Hospital, Odogunyan, for medical attention, but he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The 174 Battalion Medical Center in Ikorodu has received the soldier’s remains, according to an army spokesperson.

According to him, the suspect was detained by the military for the safety of the individual before being turned over to the Nigerian police for prosecution.

“However, the angry mob that had seen the unfortunate incident seized the opportunity and attacked the local police station.
