On Tuesday, some Ondo State residents in the Ore neighborhood protested peacefully along the Ore-Benin Expressway against the nation’s dire need for fuel and naira notes.
As the protest resulted in hours-long gridlock, motorists using the busy expressway were left stranded along the route.
One of the demonstrators said the recent hardship ravaging the nation is quite alarming while speaking during the protest.
We’re protesting to let the government know that the common people are suffering, he said.
The Ondo Police Command had advised residents not to participate in any sort of protest, but the demonstration is still taking place.
Oyeyemi Oyediran, the state’s commissioner of police, stated that “the Command is aware of the residents’ agendas to stage a protest in order to air their anger.”
“He made a plea to the state’s citizens to stop engaging in such actions. Security personnel have been dispatched to protect community members and catch lawbreakers.

According to reports, protests over fuel and naira shortages were held in the past week in the states of Oyo and Edo, and one protester was killed in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.
Some police commands, including those in Lagos and Ondo, have issued warnings to locals urging them to refrain from using violence in response to the country’s ongoing protests.
The N100, N200, N500, and N1000 notes were among those affected by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s redesign of all significant naira notes in December of last year.
